Managing Battery Issues with Pulsar Devices

Managing Battery Issues with Pulsar Devices

At Pulsar, we understand that your thermal and night vision devices are essential to your nocturnal adventures, whether you’re scanning fields for dangerous predators or on a late-night patrol for pesky hogs. While our devices are designed for reliability, the one component that often causes concern is the battery. Here’s a guide to help you troubleshoot common battery issues and get the most out of your Pulsar gear.

  1. Long Storage? Charge Your Battery

It’s not uncommon for batteries to drain after extended storage periods. If your Pulsar device doesn’t turn on after sitting for a while, give the battery a full charge. But if the issue persists after charging, it’s best to send the device back for repair. We’ll ensure it’s working as expected.

  1. Firmware Can Affect Battery Indicators

If you feel your battery is draining faster than it should, your battery level indicator might be at fault. Often, a quick firmware update will fix the problem. Our repair team has noticed that outdated firmware can cause faulty battery readings. If you're not sure how to update, we’re happy to walk you through it or you can check our website for instructions.

  1. Understanding APS Batteries

Our devices use Advanced Power Solution (APS) rechargeable batteries. Note that these batteries have different charges depending on what device they are installed in. An APS3 battery typically lasts longer than an APS2, and both have less charge than the APS5. Power is not consumed at a uniform rate, as power consumption depends on factors like weather and how much the device is used.

  1. Cold Weather Drains Batteries Faster

Remember that cold weather takes a toll on battery life. This is true for any electronic device, and Pulsar products are no exception. If you know you'll be out in freezing temperatures, consider carrying an extra fully charged battery. It’s also a good idea to store batteries in a warm place, like inside your coat pocket, when not in use.

  1. Recoil Can Impact Connection

For those using Pulsar thermals on firearms with heavy recoil, there may be issues when excessive recoil causes a disconnect between the battery and the display cable. This can result in the device suddenly losing power. If you experience this, check your mounting and, if necessary, contact us for assistance.
